Apia Travel Guide
Apia accommodation, Apia activities and attractions, Apia maps, transportation to and around Apia - the ALL NEW Jasons Apia Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Apia.
Characterised by its relaxed pace and old colonial buildings, Apia is
Samoa's capital and its major port. Apia has a good variety of shops and services for visitors, with supermarkets, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, banks, duty-free shops and colourful craft outlets. Apia's best known landmark is Aggie Grey’s Hotel - a famous watering hole made popular by war-weary American GIs during World War II. From outside the hotel, you can begin the historic walk to
Mulinuu Peninsula.
Apia’s flea market is the place to soak up some atmosphere. You’ll find a wide range of locally made handcrafts and imported goods and, for fresh local produce, make an early visit to Maketi Fou (food market) on
Fugalei Street.
At Apia harbour's eastern end is the

wharf and nearby the Palolo Deep Marine Reserve - a great spot for snorkelling, diving

and swimming. Neat villages spread along Apia's coast, stretching up to the hills. Just
beyond Apia there are several sights well worth visiting. The famous author Robert Louis Stevenson came to live in
Upolu five years before his death and his mansion at Vailima enjoys stunning views over Apia and its harbour. Also within easy distance of Apia are the Papase'ea Sliding Rocks - one of Apia's must-see attractions and perfect for a swim or picnic.
